Despite a short month, there were lots of activities across the school district. What a privilege to visit Lauren Diez's a cappella choir class. The a cappella harmony was beautiful and really inspiring. Fifth-grade students at Van Meter have formed a company and created a robot in the STEAM lab program. Our future is in good hands. STEAM is also starting in the primary grades with a maker space classroom Center in Erin White's third-grade classroom. Julie Ludeman's first grade class at Daves showcased the community they've built from the ground up. This was project-based learning it's learning at its best and a wonderful integrated lesson involving Math, Social Studies and English Language Arts. Did you know that Blossom Hill Elementary is a kindness certified school? This past month, students and staff participated in the Kindness Challenge. Over a three-year period, LexEcology at Lexington Elementary has blossomed into multiple green initiatives. A professional development highlight of the month was teachers participating in Next Generation science and engineering practices training from the California Academy of Sciences. Great hands-on learning and collaboration. There was one awesome student appreciation day at Fisher Middle School. A bag of chips was provided to each student, over twelve hundred and seventy bags and all. This is an example of how the Home and School Clubs go the extra mile for our students. I had the honor and privilege of meeting with the Art Docents. What a wonderful group of 68 volunteers that provide quality art instruction in our schools. The first-ever Fisher fling was a major success. This event and auction was jointly hosted by the Fisher Home & School Club and LGEF. The school bus pilot is rolling along. We found this photo of school buses from 1970. It's nice to see them running again. Congratulations to District Nurse Sheila McConville for her recognition by Second Harvest Food Bank for spearheading the food drive this year. After 28 years of service, district office registrar Nancy Roan's last day of work was February 1st. Nancy has registered thousands of families over the years, always in a friendly and helpful manner. Thanks for your positive impact. We wish you a happy retirement.
