October is literally the most productive instructional month of the year. We thought we would change things up a bit and provide an end of October video update. Stay tuned for a special surprise at the end of this video. One of my most favorite things to do is visit classrooms across the district. Here is a sampling of observations of the past month. Professional development is being offered full throttle during the month of October. On October 8th, teachers came together for multiple training session ranging from The new National Geographic english language arts curriculum, balanced literacy, Math Games, history protocols for deliberate discussions and standards-based grading practices. Recently a grade-level collaboration, LGUSD teachers shared their expertise and strategies with colleagues. This was a big success. Teachers are participating in last days where they are observing their colleagues teaching a lesson followed by a valuable feedback session of best instructional strategies. Bike rodeos were a huge success at Daves, Blossom Hill and Van Meter with about a hundred parent volunteers. This was a big success. Our mascot, Zippy, also made a grand appearance for kids. I am very impressed by the Home and School Clubs and LGEF working side-by-side and raising much-needed dollars for the district. The funds parents provide both of these organizations is critical and it helps provide a whole child education to help every student thrive in our schools. Finally, enjoy this very Olympic moment as students from the Fischer cross country team break through the red ribbon to open the new Fisher Track and Field Complex.
