Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten

Registration for Kindergarten and Transitional Kindergarten

In 2010, the California legislature passed the "The Kindergarten Readiness Act" (SB1381) which amended California Education Code (EC) (Section 46300, 48000 and 48010) to change the required birthday for admission to kindergarten and first grade and established a Transitional Kindergarten Program beginning in the 2012-2013 school year.  The intent of "The Kindergarten Readiness Act" is to ensure that children have the early experiences they need to help them succeed in school.

Los Gatos Union School District offers blended Transitional Kinder/Kindergarten (TK/K) programs at each of the elementary schools.

The decision to offer the blended program at each site was made after carefully considering the level of preparedness with which students in the Los Gatos community enter kindergarten.  In addition, maintaining a blended program allows for greater differentiation to meet the individual needs for all students.

Children residing in the Los Gatos Union School District attendance boundaries who will turn 5 years old by September 1, 2021 will be eligible to attend Kindergarten beginning on August 12, 2021.  Children who turn 5 years old between September 2 and December 2, 2021, are eligible to attend Transitional Kindergarten beginning on August 12, 2021.

Kindergarten and Transitional Kindergarten packets for the 2021-2022 school year are available online. Proof of age (birth record/certificate, passport, baptism certificate OR affidavit of the parent, guardian, or custodian of the minor), proof of residency, and immunization records will be required to register. Only completed registration packets, as requested in the enrollment checklist, will be accepted.
